Whether you are an alumni or new-comer to The Mission Continues, Operation Motown Muster is quite possibly the coolest thing you could do this summer. For an entire week in June, we are pulling out all the stops to work alongside Detroit communities. This is a one of a kind service opportunity in which you can be one of 75 motivated veterans working as a team to give Detroit a helping hand. We are going to give it all we’ve got, and we need you to do the same.

So why should you serve with us? The answer comes in five parts.

  1. Serve with an awesome team of veterans

The spirit of teamwork is always in the air when you serve alongside fellow veterans. When else will you have the opportunity to work, eat and sleep with an amazing team of motivated people like yourself? Operation Motown Muster is a great opportunity to connect with people and make friends who feel the same way.

  1. Be a champion for the City of Champions

Your country needs you. Detroit, the City of Champions, needs you. This is a city with a rich history and hundreds of thousands of residents who are working hard to improve their communities. Right now, too many children are undereducated, underfed, and underprivileged. They need the building blocks for success. We can help them lay the foundation. We want to give vulnerable communities extra leverage, inspire youth, and have a lasting impact.

  1. Learn new skills

During Operation Motown Muster, you’ll have the opportunity to travel to a new city (if you haven’t been there before), collaborate with new people, gain new skills, and develop your leadership abilities. We need a handful of project and team leaders to help manage projects. We’ll ask you to share your expertise in the application. But we also need a solid group of committed, hardworking individuals to work together and lead by example.

  1. Build your career

While you work, you will be exposed to a network of veterans, community partners, local businesses, Mission Continues staff, and more. Making professional connections to strengthen your network is a smart way to develop your career because it can lead to new partnerships and even open up job opportunities. Furthermore, adding volunteer experience on your resume gives you an edge, showing your proactive attitude and eagerness to take on big projects.

  1. Don’t worry about the cost

The Mission Continues will cover expenses associated with airfare, lodging and meals for the 75 veterans selected to take part. We need your passion for service in Detroit, and we don’t want cost to get in the way of your ability to participate.

To participate you must be a United States Military veteran and available to serve in Detroit, June 23-30 2016. Applications for Operation Motown Muster are due by March 18, 2016.
