The Chicago 2nd Service Platoon is on a mission to fight hunger and food insecurity.
Through repeat projects at the Jesse Brown Food Pantry and a longterm effort to help transform an abandoned building into a new community center, the platoon works hard to improve the quality of life of Chicagoans in need. The platoon recently deployed in support of the food pantry by walking in the 30th Annual Hunger Walk on Saturday, June 20th. The Greater Chicago Food Depository donated 150 pounds of food for every walker registered with the platoon.
The platoon also participated in the Hope Walk in May. With their support an abandoned building was cleared for use as a community center, over 150 veterans were fed, and more than $30,000 in donations was raised for fellow veterans.
The Mission Continues will bring more than 100 veterans to Chicago in July for a weekend of service, learning, and camaraderie. Through Charlie Class Orientation 2015, The Mission Continues will welcome the newest members of the fellowship and service platoon leader programs. A highlight of the weekend will be a large-scale service project on Bynum Island.
