Arlington Launches New Partnership on Earth Day

The Arlington Service Platoon led its first project with Boys & Girls Club on Earth Day as we built a garden area and outdoor reading and play spaces to provide opportunities for the local youth to enjoy green space.

Through this new partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, the Arlington Service Platoon is committed to increasing access and opportunities for recreation, fitness and learning for community organizations serving low income families. The service platoon will improve space that is utilized to empower low-income Arlington residents. Through our efforts, we can contribute to sustainable positive community change throughout the city.

We were so happy to have Yvette Jett take the reigns. Yvette is a veteran and a Southwest Airlines employee. She is a first-time platoon leader, and we’re so excited for what project she will lead next.

Volunteers from USAA joined the Earth Day project and provided snacks and water to show their support. The USAA Foundation proudly sponsors The Mission Continues nationally. It was a treat to have them engage with us locally here in Arlington again after they joined us for a day of service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Veterans affiliated with Wounded Warrior Project also came out, providing lunch and volunteering alongside us.

We also received a $10,000 check from the West Point Society of North Texas to support our service platoons in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington. This was a result of their 3rd Annual Charity Clay Shoot, where we were selected as a beneficiary. Chris Crawford, who presented the check, also volunteered with us for Earth Day.

Youth who attend Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County rely on the Club to not only be a safe place to go everyday, but for it to be a place that is fun and inviting. Thanks to Mission Continues we were able to transform our Main Branch and make it a place kids want to be at. All the work that got done could have only been done by a group of veterans, they came together with a sole purpose of impacting the lives of kids.
