Missouri Attorney General Closes Investigation into The Mission Continues

Dear Supporter,

Nearly a year ago, I made a public pledge to you as our partner: a commitment to transparency, honesty and openness. I promised that despite the turbulence of 2018 stemming from the unauthorized use of our donor list, that The Mission Continues would honor our commitment to veterans and our mission above all else.

Today, I’m pleased to share with you that on December 28, 2018, the Office of the Missouri Attorney General officially closed the investigation into The Mission Continues in matters related to the misappropriation of our resources and unauthorized use of our donor list. In keeping with the previous findings by the City of St. Louis and Missouri House of Representatives, the Attorney General of Missouri found no evidence that warrants an enforcement action against The Mission Continues, its leadership, employees or Board of Directors.

In part, the Office of The Attorney General of Missouri stated:

“In our investigation of these issues—and others not stated herein—we have issued dozens of subpoenas, conducted interviews with and depositions of numerous witnesses, and reviewed documents comprising hundreds of thousands of pages. Based on a thorough and careful review of the relevant evidence, we have concluded that the evidence does not warrant taking enforcement action against TMC.

Because we have not found evidence that anyone in a position of responsibility at TMC knew of or authorized the misappropriation of charitable resources, we do not believe that the evidence supports an enforcement action against TMC on this issue. For the foregoing reasons, we are closing our file regarding this matter.”

As we said from the beginning – The Mission Continues did not provide, nor authorize the use of, the list for political or campaign purposes. We value the trust our donors and volunteers place in us, and we did not break that trust.

Our team never wavered in our focus to empower veterans and communities through continued service. Thank you for your steadfast belief in our team and support of our mission.
