When I began my after-service journey I found it extremely hard to find a field of work that pushed me to achieve greatness as Special Forces once did when I was serving. A friend of mine who was a fellow veteran told me about a fellowship program with The Mission Continues. This program would allow me to continue my service
I completed my fellowship and was then selected to participate in The Mission Continues’ first ever Mass Deployment. The Mission Continues does 1 deployment per year in which thousands of planning hours go behind the creation of the week-long service event. We have now successfully finished 3 in some of the highest poverty and crime-stricken areas in the U.S.
In the midst of my education, I led a team of veterans and volunteers as a San Antonio Platoon Leader to complete service projects at Can Academy and other charter schools. This was so rewarding because I witnessed students, teachers, veterans, and city volunteers coming together with the common goal to SERVE their city. I have now been chosen to be an Ambassador with The Mission Continues to mentor and help other up-and-coming leaders in the community.
Because I stumbled across The Mission Continues and because organizations like USAA supporting The Mission Continues in San Antonio and hundreds of others supporting The Mission Continues, it has made it possible for me to achieve my goals, dreams, and continued service. I can say without a doubt in the past decade I’ve achieved a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Masters in Education, and a second Masters MBA in Entrepreneurship all because of the spark that The Mission Continues lit inside me. I currently own a website www.WeFlipHere.com which had been a goal of mine for 5 years.
If you are a veteran or someone who wants to serve their community I would strongly recommend checking out The Mission Continues in your city by simply visiting our website and see how you can get involved. www.missioncontinues.org
